However, industry have flagged barriers that make it challenging to get help after a cyber incident. Australia’s current regulatory reporting requirements for cyber incidents are complex. Businesses often need to report an incident to multiple regulators, depending on their sector, the nature of the incident, and the severity of the consequences. These obligations serve an important purpose, but they must not hinder the capacity of business leaders to respond to an incident. Additionally, industry are increasingly reluctant to share detailed and timely cyber incident information with ASD.
